I think it is more the toxic effect of the caffeine. If they eat it, they consume so much caffeine that they croak.

Coffee contains about 2 g of caffeine per 100 grams.
A rat dies at 0.38 g, a human at 10 g (LD50).
Snails probably tolerate much less.

Don't worry, a cup of brewed coffee contains only 0.15 g of caffeine.

I was also out hunting snails this year , at first I did long throws then I collected them and sprinkled them with salt and shot them away... you can't get rid of them any other way. It's pretty annoying, constantly eaten and sticky flowers

I unfortunately also cannot imagine that coffee grounds help against slug infestations. I also believe that they will certainly still like it. The most effective method is unfortunately still the chemical weapon. I always scatter slug pellets and that is really the best remedy. I have already tried a lot, but only that has led to the desired success.

You won't believe it, but I heard it too. Coffee against slugs! I mean, the coffee looks quite suitable and doesn't bother anyone. But it didn't help at all. Shot in the dark :-)

Maybe it also comes from the fact that coffee eliminates odors. In movies, it often happens that when they want to smuggle drugs, they mix coffee into the boxes to ward off the dogs. Maybe the snails don't smell any profit there anymore.

Of course coffee helps against snails - but it must be hot enough! ;)
