Hello,

we have built a garage (Kalksandstein) onto our house (timber frame). You can now go directly from the side entrance of the house into the garage.

There is an approximately 5 cm wide gap between the garage and the house. Both garage and house will be faced with brick.

Where the passage from the house into the garage is, this gap is of course bothersome and should be closed. If the garage is plastered inside, this area is to be plastered as well. What is the best way to close this gap?

Best regards,

Ask the one who is going to do the plastering. The task will be to make sure it doesn't crack after half a year ;-) He should choose the substrate ...

He already explained that to me a few weeks ago. But somehow it didn’t really stick in my memory. He wanted to close the gap with some kind of metal tape (?) and do something else over it. I thought it might also be quite good to get a second opinion.
If I were to do it myself, I would probably have gone with Fermacell ...

He probably means expanded metal. The plaster should then be separated from the wood. It can work and is often done. Otherwise, a plaster carrier board (Wedi/Pecidur, or something like that) glued to stone, maybe screwed into the wood. Apuleiste on wood frame with fabric. Fermacell or similar boards will also get you there.
