Good day,

my acquaintance is currently renovating, where the bathroom will be in the future the "old" brick house wall is still very well preserved and he would like to keep it as a shower back wall.

We have thought of a cover made of ESG or acrylic glass. Does anyone have experience regarding tightness etc.?

Regards

Pierre

Should the cover seal tightly? I wouldn’t do that. Leave a “healthy” gap at the top and bottom so the air can circulate. That would already protect the wall from most of the water. A little water vapor probably won’t make much of a difference...

However, the glass or acrylic should definitely be installed so it can be removed to clean behind it. I don’t know how modern acrylic behaves or if aquariums even use the same material, but it scratches quite easily. You would have to be careful which sponge (and maybe which cleaning agent) you use when cleaning.

Where do the pipes run? They will probably be visible then?

I would clean/disinfect the wall or the bricks sometime before starting to use it. Otherwise, moss might start growing in the shower.

If it does not fit tightly, can it then be left out? The question is whether the brick can otherwise be impregnated so well that it doesn't matter. The pipes will come from behind so that they are not visible on the wall. In the room behind, a casing will be constructed for this purpose.

I meant that a glass panel from the shower floor (with 1 or 2 cm height clearance) reaches up to the top edge of the shower. This way, most of the water would be on the glass panel and not on the tiles. I don't know if that is ideal

In any case, it is much easier to keep clean than tiles. I don't want to have to scrub those. The cleaning agent might also be "dangerous"
