A common alternative would be infiltration, but this would take up part of the probably not generously sized plot area.

Since the front directly borders the street (sidewalk) and in our case it is a terraced house in the middle, infiltration is not possible.

when should I raise this with my developer? Already now, or only during the building acceptance?

In my opinion, address it as early as possible; it is always better to see the construction grow from a "tidy" contractual relationship :)
