Here the chimney flues are located in the corners of the concrete staircase, so that the adjacent rooms are free of "disturbing" boxes, which I find quite elegant.
I don't find the angled corners nice, nor particularly practical when you want to carry furniture upstairs. I find a chimney flue itself aesthetic, and if it should be disturbing, you could incorporate it into a wardrobe. Elegant is something else; the staircase would have to be made of white marble and the tread width at least 35 cm wider. If "wannabe elegant" is your thing, go for it. But my opinion is not always welcome in such matters, which is why I didn't reply.
