Hello everyone,

in the children’s bathroom we have space for a 1-1.20m sink. I’ve been thinking for days now about what’s better – one big sink with two taps or two smaller sinks, but separate?

Actually, I like the idea of two sinks, but I’m afraid there will be regular floods if they turn out to be too small.

We have a daughter and a son. They probably won’t use the bathroom at the same time later anyway, but on the other hand, there might be overnight guests more often, and the bathroom will be used simultaneously again.

Or the bathroom will be converted into a men’s bathroom, then it would also be nice if man and son had separate sinks...

What experiences do you have? Oh, and at what age does a child shower completely alone?

My 3 children also have their own shower bathroom. By now, all 3 shower by themselves (3-8 years old), only the youngest still needs help after showering. We have a 1m sink and all 3 kids fit there. We could have made it 1.20m, but we decided against it to have space for shelves on both sides of the sink.

My opinion: for 2-3 people (whether child or adult) one sink should be enough. Who stands in front of it at the same time? I find separate storage space for everyone more important. Regards Yvonne

I would somehow agree with Yvonne - for two children, I also consider two sinks to be excessive. You yourself already say that your children might only use the bathroom together for a few more years - with us, it's even the case that we don't want them to use it together at all because they always make a mess - water seems to have a fascination for children. Similarly, two people can comfortably brush their teeth at one sink at the same time, and otherwise, you don't do an excessive amount of daily activities at the sink - except for washing hands after using the toilet, and hopefully, you are alone for that. With two sinks, I would carefully check whether it really fits and whether you might have to make other compromises (narrow passage width, less storage space, etc.).

Unset Kinderbad has a tap and a larger, but not huge basin - the time for two is so short, it’s not worth it. And a "Männerbad" probably exists only in imagination or in advertising - father and son are unlikely to stand in it together.

I didn’t necessarily think of the two washbasins as something to be used at the same time. More like everyone having their own completely separate area. Then there’s no trouble like "x always leaves her hair in the sink," or x doesn’t clean up his toothpaste residue and stuff like that.

I got the idea of a men's bathroom from the forum. I also meant it that way, that we girls can make ourselves comfortable at 26 degrees in the big bathroom with a bathtub and the men can have the window in the small bathroom tilted open all year round. The main thing is, I don’t have to freeze at 16 degrees or so.
