Hello dear house building forum,
For our basement, we are planning a (small) renovation; after taking over from the previous owners, we initially only swept roughly, but after 3 years we want to tackle it.
The house is from 1956 and the basement walls are currently plastered and painted with lime paint.
Accordingly, we would want/need to work with mineral paint again. Dispersion paint would not be suitable for the basement.
Since lime paint is not very abrasion-resistant, we are considering using silicate paint for the new coat.
Is it possible to simply paint over the existing lime paint with silicate paint after a thorough cleaning with a brush? Or would the lime paint first need to be largely removed so that the silicate paint adheres?
Maybe someone of you has experience or expertise in this :)
Best regards from Hannover,
Hauke
