I want to install an outdoor camera for entrance monitoring instead of a door intercom/video system in my new building. I do not need an intercom; however, I want to be able to see who is standing at the door when needed. I also do not require continuous recording of the outdoor area. Video door stations from well-known doorbell manufacturers are too expensive for me. The camera should be installed (preferably discreetly) in the entrance canopy (similar to ceiling spotlights). It should be possible to check who is at the door via iPhone/iPad when needed. What costs should I expect? What should be considered here?

What do you then see? The hairline or bald spot of the visitor?

The canopy is 3m long and should of course not be mounted at the height of the entrance door but on the side.

Even then, you have to experiment a lot... and cannot recommend a clear brand/model here...

Depending on the lens, the camera may either show everything or nothing at your doorstep...

I can recommend products from Digitus here. The cams are only of mediocre quality, but the whole system works great. Remote access via app (e.g. on the iPhone, within the WLAN network or also via mobile internet) is possible (live view, playback of recorded events). At the same time, you can have the event files uploaded to Google Drive for backup. It works perfectly for me.
