Hello everyone,

we have received a top offer for Villeroy & Boch tiles at half price. The reason is that the brand does not exactly match the color of the otherwise produced tiles and is therefore sold as a secondary color first choice.
We need approx. 62 sqm plus cuttings and reserve, so at least 70 sqm. (Possibly a bit more because then it cannot be reordered) That is also not a problem. We can get as many tiles of this brand as we want.

We are currently in the shell construction phase. The carpenter starts next week. That means we probably won’t need the tiles before May or later.
Can we store the tiles in the garage until then? The garage is also still in the shell construction phase. That means gate, windows, door and sealing of the flat roof are missing.
Will the tiles be in the way then? Do we run any risk storing them?
What would you do?
€22.50/sqm for the desired Villeroy & Boch tile is of course already a strong price.

Best regards
milkie

You can store the tiles wherever you want. As long as it doesn’t bother anyone... However, you do face the risk of theft. For a bargain, I would accept that risk – but it depends on your risk tolerance. In our construction area, the workers have always stored a lot of material at the site. Currently (for almost two weeks now), about 40m of [Legi-Stabgitterzäune] are still lying on the street at our place.

We also had to buy our parquet early, so it had to be stored in our old house (a little over 200 sqm). Would that also be an option for you?

Theoretically yes, but practically speaking, 70sqm of tiles (at least 1 pallet) is not just quickly brought with one trip to the construction site, right? Or carried down to the basement and back up again beforehand. But yes, maybe that would be easier so that the screed can be laid without obstruction when the time comes.

Addendum: 70sqm means 1500kg!

Frost-resistant also means that you could store them in the garage over the winter, right?

Yes, that means frost-resistant. And yes, I know what it means to store and transport such an amount. For us, it was "only" 1.4 tons, but more than two pallets, each about 1.6 m high

I would definitely not store them freely on the construction site. In our new development area, theft has occurred with every second builder so far.

Either shortly before the house is completed. So paint, wallpaper, drying equipment, tools. Or entire scaffolding dismantled during the shell construction phase. Construction has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, and at least once a week there is news of a theft. There are already builders who spend the night in the barely closed shell construction... Few have finished building and already live there, and even their neighbors have had everything taken that wasn’t welded down...
