A different number from us.

There are 5 of us (children 6,6,2) and we have between 1,200 and 1,400 variable costs per month. These are groceries, eating out, drugstore, diapers + toddler items, clothes, hardware store for small things, hairdresser, cinema, swimming, etc. = everything that is not regular payments like e.g. insurance, club fees, school costs, daycare or similar. Vacation or larger purchases are also not included yet.

The respective average for food and drugstore items broken down to 3 people does not even reach 500€. So the information given by the OP roughly fits. We are also three and also have about 500€ in costs for food and drugstore items.

At first glance that sounds quite a lot, but for 3 people it's about 800€. However, more than just food and drugstore items are included there.

This should also give an overall overview, we have been keeping a household account since 2010 - but the expenses just don't get any lower

What is certainly expensive is, as mentioned, meat, cheese, and bread, alone for the butcher it costs 30-40 euros for the week, baker another 10 euros, and drinks 20 euros. Then the shopping in the store with about 100-120. I am confused now, wouldn't know how to be more economical there except if we give up something.

Hmm, 280 euros here for three people including lots of organic. Where do you eat all that?
