Hello everyone,
I want to convert an old storage room on the 1st floor into a balcony/terrace in the next few months.
Currently, it looks like this:
It is an extension built with masonry and a wooden ceiling, above which sits a primitive, slanted roof that is already damaged in several places. This roof is to be removed and an open terrace is to be created there. On the outer wall of this extension, there is a connection for a water drainage system, with a downspout running alongside it.
The wooden floor is loosely covered with tar mats that are not welded/sealed. These will probably be removed during the renovation as they do not provide any sealing.
How could I build up the floor covering on this wooden ceiling so that it remains permanently watertight for years? What would you suggest? This floor structure should have a slight slope away from the house wall to ensure water drainage. On this substrate, I want to lay Bankirai boards as the terrace flooring, or possibly those imitations made of plastic-wood mixture. If rubber sheets are used as the base, they would have to withstand the plastic supports of the decking (the substructure for the terrace floor).
Working with screed is likely difficult on a wooden ceiling, although it is already quite stable.
The newly designed terrace floor should have an area of around 30 sqm and would be only partially protected from above by a cover (e.g., an awning).
Does anyone have any ideas?
