Hello everyone,

I have now started my last project and rebuilt my entrance.

The entrance is 4.50 x 2.60 meters and I have set 24 stones with a ring beam. The ceiling is later intended to serve as a balcony and I might want to put a partition wall on it. Now to my concerns.

I want to insert 4x 160 steel beams (approx. 4.40 meters) and lay hollow floor slabs in between. Then fill with concrete and some iron. An IDP beam is cheaper and lighter but only withstands half the load. Does such a concrete ceiling hold together or can it bend under its own weight? Has anyone built something like this? When I look at an old GDR garage, the ceiling is even thinner and still holds together.

Thanks for the info!

I would consult a structural engineer for that

are you allowed to do it simply without a building permit?

I don't need a building permit. The entrance has always been there and I simply put the ring beam on top of it and the old roof was just made of wood. So roof off, one side a bit higher because of the old slope, U-blocks on top and now the new roof should be made of concrete. Yes, I could hire a structural engineer for 500€. I think that's a bit expensive for a balcony/roof of 12m2. I thought someone has already built such a small balcony and can simply tell me which beams they installed?

Thanks for the info
