Bubble membrane on terrace with rain gutter - keep it or remove it?

Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the following question. There is currently a dimpled membrane around our new building. The terrace is going to be built soon. At the doors leading to the future terrace, we have masonry roller layers that are flush with the facade ([Bild1]). In the end, it should look like in the example pictures ([Bild2 & 3]), so that you step out level with the roller layer, with a rain gutter behind it and then the terrace slabs.

The question is, what do you do with the dimpled membrane at that point? If it stays, there would be an ugly gap with the dimpled membrane between the rain gutter and the roller layer, which I don't want. However, the garden landscaper says that it is super important to keep it because of ventilation. For example, he also kept it on another side of the house where he laid stepping stones. There, it doesn't look really nice either ([Bild4]), but it bothers me less than if he did the same at the terrace.

What are your opinions? I have seen many examples of houses like in [Bild2 & 3] where there is no dimpled membrane at that point. Is that the "wrong" execution or is it harmless if you cut away the dimpled membrane there? And how is it best to do it on the parts of the terrace where the rain gutter ends? It will only be in the area of the doors. In the other areas, keep the dimpled membrane or remove it?

Many thanks in advance!

Meal time,

with us, the landscape gardener cut them out in these places. This makes it look "flush" and nicer.

Hello everyone,

since the exterior work has been delayed a bit, the thread is still relevant and I’m reactivating it once again.

Yesterday, I looked at various show houses from one provider to see how the outdoor areas are arranged there.

I noticed that the dimpled membrane at the gutters was partially removed, but in some cases left in place and silicone was applied over the area as shown in picture 6379. Otherwise, I saw that the dimpled membrane between the exterior wall and the terrace slabs was mostly left in place. In other houses, the slabs were laid all the way up to the walls.

How important is this issue, because it doesn’t really look nice. I also asked two landscape gardeners and one said it’s very important because of moisture and insurance, while the other said it’s not really crucial.
