Hello, I have a huge problem. Last Monday it stormed very hard here, so that the gable above the ring beam was pushed in. Our new building is already finished, except for the windows. The wind was so strong that the gable was completely pushed in with facing bricks and Ytong stone up to under the ridge (the gable is basically shifted about 10 cm towards the attic with the tip and is now held by the rafters). The distance between the facing bricks and the paneling is about 10 cm long (directly under the ridge).

Is it possible to repair the gable by pushing it back out and stabilizing it from the inside? Some say yes, others no. Since it is a new building, I am reluctant to tinker with the structure. If there is the possibility of such a repair, of course I would like to take it.

Best regards

Hello eraser,

The company you contracted for the shell construction has to ensure quality and also comply with the structural engineering requirements, so what do they propose?

Unfortunately, everyone is on vacation at the moment. They will be back on Friday and will take a look at it then. The managing director is a friend of mine. He said that he couldn’t really assess it yet because he needs to see it first. I have basically been on tenterhooks since Monday. One of his employees has apparently already been there and said that it might be possible. I always have reservations about it. In the end, you have a weak spot in the house and there will definitely be a crack somewhere. The question is only whether you can make it completely sealed and whether it can really be stabilized. It’s also possible that the gable will be stronger afterwards than before. Unfortunately, I am just a layman and have no knowledge of this stuff and have to rely on others. That’s why it doesn’t hurt to get a few opinions. Ultimately, if it should be repaired, I want to have it in writing from a structural engineer anyway that everything is fine. Maybe someone has had the same problem before.
