Hey guys,

my wife and I want to buy a house but would like to tear down a wall and build a new drywall partition in a shifted position.

So it’s about the partition wall between the bathroom and the toilet, we would like to make it into one room, which would then be a bit bigger and brighter. Above this area is only the attic of the extension. Bathroom, kitchen, toilet, and hallway are located in the extension.

I have attached an excerpt of the floor plan. The wall sections marked in red are to be removed, and where the blue line runs, the drywall partition should be built.

Can it be seen that this is possible? The red wall elements each have a thickness of 17.5 cm, unfortunately I cut off the right measurement when cropping.

I hope someone can possibly help me. The house itself was built in 1925, but I can’t say exactly when the extension was added.

Michael

I believe every statement here is grossly negligent... only to be answered on site and only by a specialist.

Too bad,

I thought one could say something like that. But then I will probably have to hire someone. Can a mason with around 40 years of professional experience possibly say something about this, or does another expert need to be called in?

How much does such an assessment approximately cost? Or what should one roughly expect?

Hello Michael,

according to the drawing - and if it was built that way, it is not a load-bearing wall.

One would think you have direct access to the source?

Yes, the mason will be able to explain it to you as well.

Explain yes, but only a structural engineer gives you safety.

Or someone who knows how it was planned. I also know which walls I can knock out in my house and which not, without risking my house collapsing.
