Everyone must decide for themselves, I myself am mainly active in the field of static testing and can only recommend from my own experience to anyone who is not familiar to have construction inspections carried out. It is not about checking the static proofs, but about the execution on site.

And there I thought it would be more sensible to hire someone who has not calculated the statics themselves.

Or the structurally knowledgeable construction supervisor?

If you choose someone who has not calculated the statics themselves or does not know about it, that person must first deal with the statics. Of course, you can voluntarily hire an inspector if you have the money. Otherwise, having the structural engineer themselves conduct the building inspection would be an alternative, since they know their own statics and know what to pay attention to during execution.
