Hello,

I glued my perimeter insulation with PCI 2K bituminous thick coating to attach the 120 BASF boards after the wall coating (bituminous thick coating) had dried. After a few days, cracks have now appeared on the insulation boards in the Palatinate!!!

Does anyone have experience with this... I assumed that bituminous thick coating can also be used as adhesive.
Do I need to treat the cracks afterwards? The plan was to now only finish the drainage and cover the shaft with soil (without dimpled membrane).

Regards

Hello Digger,

did you proceed exactly according to the technical datasheet when gluing:

"Perimeter insulation On the fully cured PCI Pecimor 2K sealing, insulation or drainage boards (e.g. made of Styrodur, Styropor or Foamglas) can be applied. According to DIN 18195-4, the bonding is done spotwise with about 5 to 8 adhesive spots per board. According to DIN 18 195-6, the bonding is done fully and without cavities. The board joints must be protected against water ingress by filling in. For bonding we recommend our insulation board adhesive PCI Pecimor DK."

Despite the adhesive recommendation, PCI also states: "Suitable for bonding rigid foam insulation boards (perimeter insulation)." This means you can use the bitumen compound for bonding.

With boards having stepped joints, despite cracked covering plaster, no water should actually seep in if bonded precisely. Nevertheless, I would re-plaster the cracks and let them dry. The overlap of the boards should be designed so that no water can seep in from above, for example by placing edge stones in concrete or similar. You can also place a studded membrane tightly on the boards (and, if necessary, fold it over at the top) and then fill up with 16/32 gravel after laying the drainage so that it is pressed on. The water virtually "shoots" along the studded membrane directly through the gravel bed to the drainage and does not touch your boards at all. I would use a studded membrane alone as protection of the boards against mechanical damage.
