Hello,

we are considering buying an old building from 1930 with a beautiful plot in a good location.
The only problem is the basement, which is a bit damp, so it needs cross ventilation and therefore the ceiling should be insulated.
After the insulation, the room height will only be 165cm. We only want to use the basement as storage space, for the heating system and the washing machine.
Does anyone have experience with such low ceiling heights in the basement?
I imagine it would be quite annoying in the long run if you always have to bend down to go to the washing machine.

Best regards and many thanks for feedback
Markus

Storage space and heating at that height – well, no joy, but it works.
But the laundry room? No, thanks! Neverever.

Thank you for the feedback! The laundry room has a higher ceiling height of 193. Only the corridor from the stairs to there and the rest of the basement are 165.

And always walk bent over with the full basket. It's stupid. But insulating is good. You need another plan

You can take a look at vacuum insulated panels, but that stuff isn’t cheap. With them, you can gain height directly.

Phew, I can't imagine it being very comfortable to walk bent over with a full laundry basket. Is there maybe still space above for the washing machine?
