Hello everyone,

quick question to the group:

How must a floor slab be positioned in relation to the top edge of the terrain? Bottom edge of the floor slab = top edge of the terrain?

Or can I, for example, reduce the depth of the frost skirts from the prescribed 80 cm to 60 cm because above it there is at least a 20 cm thick floor slab and in total I then still get 80 cm??

Thanks and regards

Hi,

Frost skirts should be located 80cm below the ground surface level. Whether you can reduce or need to increase this, the soil expert should be able to provide information. It always depends on the soil and the frost susceptibility of the area.....

What specifications has your structural engineer given regarding the depth?

Best regards

Hello,

Statics still in progress.... It's only about the statement of a contractor who thinks that the 80cm of the frost skirts fundamentally could be offset against the height of the base slab of 20cm, and thus you save the 20cm on the frost skirts themselves......Therefore the question is whether the bottom edge of the base slab = top of terrain......Then in my opinion it would not be so easy to offset......That would actually only be possible if top of base slab = top of terrain.....right???

Thank you for the quick clarification!

And what is to be made of the statement that with foam glass gravel under the floor slab and about 50 cm beyond the edges of the load-bearing floor slab, one can do without the concrete frost skirts, i.e. frost resistance is ensured in this way as well?
Are there any experiences with this?

Hi,

that is supposed to work. However, I have no personal experience with it.
