Hello,

I spoke with a specialist who said that the base area of a aerated concrete house must be constructed differently to avoid later moisture damage. He was in favor of making the base area out of sand-lime brick. In his opinion, placing aerated concrete blocks directly on the ground slab is a no-go. He recommends the base area be made of sand-lime brick.

1. Question to the experts: do you share his opinion as well, and if so, why?
2. Question to the experts: how is it feasible with a construction method without external insulation? As far as I know, sand-lime brick needs to be insulated.

Best regards

Hello,

I would say that your "expert" is not all there or doesn’t have all his cups in order. He is surely someone who also believes that meat dissolves when placed in cola.

I have had many houses built exclusively from aerated concrete and I have never had a moisture problem in the base area. If the first row of blocks is done properly underneath, there is absolutely no problem. Your "expert" probably wants to sell you sand-lime brick masonry.

Best regards from the Rhineland
