Hey guys,

does anyone have good knowledge about setting angle stones?

I am unsure about the backfilling:

the stones are set without drainage, is it then necessary / sensible to backfill with gravel anyway?

As I understand it, this causes water to seep downwards, but then it cannot drain well because the drainage is missing.

Isn't it more sensible, in this case, to backfill directly with soil?

Best regards

Dennis

With gravel, the soil would have a bit more buffering capacity than with soil. However, this has nothing to do with proper drainage. If the water does not seep away or only seeps away poorly in your case, you need a plan because the water must go somewhere. Either you have an open water management system and create corresponding ditches or basins, or you have a closed water management system and use drainage. There is nothing in between.

Of course, you can also simply do nothing and backfill. But then I ask you to post pictures of your new "pool" here after the next heavy rain.

Thanks first of all for your reply.

Now the plan is not to seal the joints between the stones with bitumen, but with a sandbox fleece.
If it really rains heavily, the water that does not seep away can drain off.

Can anyone bear the sight when this happens? I have such a case in the neighborhood, the stones look completely filthy after an autumn/winter. No crystal-clear healing water is seeping through there ;-)

That is of course true, but it doesn't matter since there are bushes in front of the stones and I can't see anything there either.

Technically speaking, nothing should be blocked up by water because of it, right?
Would you still fill in with gravel behind it?

I am a bit uncertain about that.

Best regards
