hi guys,

originally we wanted an open attic space in the [og]. now, due to the steep roof pitch, it has become quite high (4.60m). the architect thinks we should rather install a loft/storage room.

what are your experiences?

I think it's a matter of taste, my wife and I currently also want an exposed rafter roof structure, we are both not fans of cramped attics where you mostly just gather junk. I assume the 4.60 is at the highest point (ridge), is there actually enough space for a (sensibly usable) attic? I could also well imagine at your place that, for example, a mezzanine could be installed above the wardrobes in the children's rooms to create additional play or sleeping space for the children. Above your dressing room, that would also fit to create storage space, for example. I would personally leave the hallway ceiling high and possibly only install a lower ceiling in the bathroom.

Regards, Sebastian

The 4.6m is actually at the highest point. Originally, we had also thought about the intermediate floors in the children's rooms.... but now I don't know if that will be a wall that's too high in our bedroom to look at.

Have you already seen our plans? I'll attach them directly in this post

I had seen the drafts in another post of yours, the bedroom (walk-in closet) wall is not centered, so the ceiling height in the bedroom is already significantly lower than 4.60. How wide is your house, what is the roof pitch and what is the knee wall height? Unfortunately, you can’t really see that in the drawings.

our house is 10m x 9m, the roof pitch is 40 degrees and the knee wall is 1.35m

by the way, I think it’s great that you take my concerns seriously and are dealing with our plans
