Good morning!

I am new here in the forum and think that I can get help here. We have around our little house (semi-detached house) directly at the house wall a strip about 40cm wide where there are lots of small stones. I would like to search on Google but honestly, I have no idea what this edge/gutter can be called. Now our facade looks like s*** after every rain shower.

My brother once said to remove the stones and put gravel or something similar in.

What options are there because the drainage is still lying in this "gutter"?

Regards
Else

Hello Else,

what is meant by small stones? Are they lying on soil?

Your brother is quite right. A good option is to remove the "stones" deep enough, then spread a non-decomposable fleece (against weeds) and add a layer of gravel of your own choice on top. This gravel comes in different sizes and colors and also mixed.
The gravel prevents the soil from splashing against the house wall. If a weed should ever grow between the gravel, it can be easily pulled out.

In my opinion, this solution looks good and is very low-maintenance.

Thank you very much for the answer!
Yes, so the stones lie around the house about 30cm deep on some kind of sandy stuff... I only saw this because our neighbor has already taken the stones out.
Then I guess I’ll soon get to work and collect the stones out.

The whole thing is called kiesbord. Under the gravel there is usually a sand gravel mixture in which a drainage pipe lies in a fleece. You can use anything that allows enough water to pass through and is frost-proof.

Coarse gravel is the classic variant

Hello Else, hello Jörg,

A drainage pipe is not required in a gravel board in front of a house wall and, in my experience, is not necessary.

Drainage pipes with the associated casing are, according to DIN 4095 (Drainage for the protection of structural elements) and DIN 18195 (Building waterproofing), to be placed outside a basement floor in connection with appropriate waterproofing of the basement exterior wall to discharge non-pressing water in front of the basement exterior wall via a drainage system.
Above the drainage pipe including the filter gravel packing, a filter/soakaway layer and/or a filter/soakaway plate must be installed.
Above this is the mentioned gravel board. I have already explained its construction previously.
An important point to note is that there must be a minimum height difference of 10 cm between the top edge of the gravel and the ventilation openings in double-shell masonry.

In buildings without basements, drainage is not required.
If pressing water (usually groundwater) stands in front of a basement, it must be sealed according to DIN 18195 part 6, usually by means of a "white tank."

So Else, you may proceed calmly. However, the stones you place there should be clean.
