Hm. I've been doing my income declaration for 35 years. For that, proof of transfers has been required for many years. The bank statements are copied, then edited with a marker and copied again. The relevant parts remain legible.
If your annual bank statements need to be edited, then do it like that. Don't always think so complicated ;)

I had set it up to be informed by email but it ended up in the spam folder.

What exactly did you black out? Is it allowed to black out all transactions with amounts and descriptions, so that only the account balance at the respective time is visible?
