Hello everyone,

we are currently renovating an old building from 1913 and will also be adding a small extension. I would like to prepare sensible things to have the possibility of air conditioning (cooling) the office (old building) and the bedroom (new building). The goal is to get through the few hot days in NRW (which will potentially be more rather than less) and not to cool the entire apartment to 17°. It is about the apartment on the ground floor, which has a full basement (yes, the extension will also have a basement).

Now I have different ideas:

    [*
      Prepare ventilation ducts in the basement and blow cool air centrally into the rooms. The cool air could be generated like this
      [LIST=1]
      [*]by a central air conditioning unit
      [*]through air ducts in the floor slab of the new basement (approx. 40m² area)

    [*]Split units in both rooms: Both my wife and I find them very ugly and this would only be the absolute last resort.

I am interested in all opinions / ideas / experiences whether this is nonsense or if there are completely different possibilities that I have not considered.

Welcome to the forum, Solution 2, effective, low effort, you can also use it for heating. Hide 1 outdoor unit, and 2 indoor units, which also come in nice designs, e.g. as wall units, floor consoles, ceiling units, etc. Solution 1 would be way too complicated for the few days of heat.

Thanks :) Do you have example products or search terms? I usually find the indoor parts very ugly and since we don't have a dropped ceiling in our old building, they have to stick somewhere on the wall. I could only find something from Daikin that is somewhat less bad than the common split units, but pretty (and especially suitable for an old villa with light stucco) is something else...

No. 1 does not work. The airflow is far too low, and the condensation problem is too high.

You get used to the appearance of No. 2 quickly if it means you can sleep through the summer. And almost all manufacturers now offer somewhat more "stylish" devices.

otherwise, maybe look into surface cooling or cooling ceilings, but it costs several times as much

And the dehumidification is still missing.
