Hello everyone,

1.5 years ago a house was purchased. The heating/hot water consists of a solar system + a water-carrying fireplace. A 1000L water storage tank handles the storage. Basically, this system works well. However, on cold days (without sun) when no one is at home to operate the fireplace, the water storage can only be heated via the heating cartridge.

To save corresponding electricity costs, the consideration now is to bridge such days with an additional heating system.

Currently under consideration are a small air/heat pump or a gas boiler (gas is available at the street).

Who has experience regarding the effort/cost/benefit of these options? A first offer for the heat pump is available. Type OCHSNER EUROPA MINI IWP

Best regards

As far as I know, solar/water-bearing stove and heat pump do not fit together due to too different flow temperatures. Do you have radiators? A heat pump would only be economical with underfloor heating and low flow temperature. Or do you mean air-to-air heat pump? Then it would be a separate system and might possibly work. Gas would be, if it is already available, in my opinion probably the most convenient for you.

Hello,

the house has complete underfloor heating and is well insulated.
A heat pump using air/water is possible, as it ultimately has to support the water storage.

I don’t understand why the different flow temperatures should be a problem.

I'm not an expert either, but afaik you then need two heating circuits, or it becomes unnecessarily complicated in terms of control.

or for example can explain that to you better.

What's wrong with gas?

So it’s doable. But it can become complex with the control system. It is certainly possible, as long as the fireplace is not in use and the house is not being heated, to switch on a heat pump. Ideally, it would then feed directly into the underfloor heating and not into the buffer tank, in order to at least ensure a basic temperature. However, this is demanding in terms of regulation technology and is anything but run-of-the-mill. How about a small pellet stove, water-bearing, which is operated automatically? I would try to keep the system as simple as possible. Gas would basically be possible, but it costs for the connection to the house, basic fees, installation, maintenance, chimney sweep, etc. And that for just a few days a year or in winter. That would be my last choice. Depending on the space, a second buffer tank and a wood gasifier might also make sense.

What is the heat demand of the house and pictures also say more than 1000 words.
