Hello everyone,

I'm speaking up again.
Large technology companies are increasingly being sold by their founders.
The latest example is AVM, the company behind the popular Fritzbox. The founders of AVM have now sold their shares, and it seems that this could usher in a new era for the company and its products. Could this sale possibly mean significant changes for the Fritzbox and its future developments? Considering how important this technology is in many households, the question arises whether we might soon see new innovations or perhaps even a completely new strategic direction.

Does the sale of AVM have positive or negative effects on the Fritzbox and its further development? And what could this mean for us as users?

Regards

According to the press, the investment is supposed to further strengthen the existing future planning of the previous owners (who are still involved in the company and will continue to contribute). An expansion of the existing products is planned.

My personal assessment: A good deal for everyone including the customers.

Yes. I think the support for products will be shortened over many years. Thus, faster EoS and EoL.

Where the journey of the run-of-the-mill modem/router is headed remains to be seen. In recent years, AVM has often not been at the top of the market anyway. The 7590 with inferior components simply dies, the 7510 is a senselessly put-together device, excluding certain bands in the WLAN, … I hope they don’t add even more fancy gimmicks to the boxes and focus on the main tasks of such a device.

AVM, the manufacturer of the Fritz-Box, has just been hit with a hefty fine! They are said to have violated the price-fixing regulations...

Since the routers are often distributed through internet providers, there is certainly a contractual arrangement regarding support and updates. The sale of additional products such as switchable sockets and thermostats probably only works because Fritzboxes are so widespread. Therefore, I don't believe that anything will change in the medium term. I also bought the repeaters from AVM because the Fritzbox was already there and I just want it to work (and it does).
