Hello everyone,

I am considering covering a wall in my guest bathroom with wood panels. I have now found an article that I quite like. One slat would have a width of 4 cm. I now have the following questions:

1. Do you attach the first slat directly to the wall or leave a gap to the right towards the other wall (not the distance to the wall to which it is attached)?
2. What distance between each other have you chosen? For a 4 cm wide slat, I was thinking about 1.5 - 2 cm?

Thank you very much.

If it is not only for the appearance but also for sound dampening acoustics, I recommend applying an underlay board, an energy-absorbing natural material that can withstand the conditions in a damp room, and placing the wooden slats on top of it. The panel or the panels built this way are installed as a whole piece on the wall in the room. If it is more about the appearance and some sound diffusion to avoid echoes, you can place the slats as you like. To avoid flickering (another quite recent thread), I would pay attention to the contrasts and choose the slat and the spacing in an "irrational" ratio to each other – for example, as you suggested roughly with slats 40 mm wide and spacing 11.7 mm, or significantly more delicate slats 15 mm and spacing 4.3 mm...

Hello Hampshire, I am also planning to build something in some hall-like places. Could you quickly tell me if your construction is meant to be 3-layered? (underground board + sound-absorbing material + lathing) and if you have any specific recommendations for the board and the energy-absorbing natural material? Thank you
