Hello everyone,

I have a fireplace stove from Modena and when I use it, the glass panes always turn black.

I have opened the primary air and closed the secondary air.

When I open the secondary air (just slightly is enough), the glass panes stay clear, but then too much air comes in, the fire becomes very wild, and the room does not get warm.

I played around with it a lot last winter and tried everything, but I can't find a good setting. Does anyone maybe have a tip?

In wood-burning stoves, it is usually the primary air that enters the combustion chamber from below. This air should be open together with the secondary air during the ignition phase. Once the fire is burning sustainably and you no longer have smoke, you can close the primary air. The secondary air remains open! Only then can the glass air wash function properly.

So, primary air and secondary air open for lighting, then close the primary air (from below!). Then the system works as well. It is important to close the air from below only when there is already enough heat in the combustion chamber.

Thank you for your help. I tried it, but unfortunately it doesn't help. The primary air is completely closed and as soon as I open the secondary air slider a little, the fire becomes totally wild. It makes no difference whether I open the slider just slightly or completely.

Does every fireplace have secondary air? I have never read anything about that. I can only adjust the primary air.
