Hello,

does anyone of you know a manufacturer for windproof recessed housings for ceiling spotlights that leave enough space for 14cm deep spotlights? According to the energy saving regulation, we have to install these windproof recessed housings in the ceiling and would like to have flush-mounted spotlights that are adjustable and sit in a rectangular housing and are about 14cm deep. On the German market, we have only found two manufacturers of windproof recessed housings and each has a model that is a round box with a max. diameter of 68mm and only about 60mm deep, so much too small. One manufacturer has fire-retardant, rectangular recessed housings, but they cost about 120-150 EUR each.

Does anyone of you have experience whether there are more affordable solutions on the market?

Thanks in advance!

Do you really need 14cm depth? What kind of spotlights are those? We have installed Kaiser 9300-03 ThermoX, which have a depth of 9cm, but are also round.

Yes, unfortunately. Even the smaller recessed spotlights have a height of 118mm and are 144x144 square in the cutout. And the transformer has to go in as well. We have high ceilings and want bigger spotlights for that, because in our opinion the very small ones don’t fit. And if you want to recess the spotlights flush with the ceiling, you need the space. We saw a housing "Kaiser fire protection housing 9435-01" that would fit. Only with well over 100 EUR per housing it really becomes an investment with many spotlights .... :(. Only because of this stupid energy saving regulation, back in the day they put the spotlights directly into fiberglass insulation (which wasn’t optimal). Today you have two housings nested inside each other, apparently the pendulum has swung the wrong way.

would per se also recommend Kaiser boxes. Otherwise, try calling the manufacturer of your spotlights and ask if they know of suitable boxes. Or conversely, call Kaiser with your spotlights and follow up; they are quite helpful.
