Hello everyone, my partner and I have bought a house in which we are currently having the windows from 1980 replaced. After the first windows were installed, I was shocked that the window stands inwards. The window fitter only said that a drywaller has to come because it is a prefabricated house and that this is absolutely normal.

My question now is whether this is normal or if the window fitter ordered windows that are too deep. Unfortunately, I can't find any similar questions on the internet, so I either assume that it is normal or so absurd that no one has had such a case.

Thanks in advance!

What is the drywaller supposed to do? He has to plaster at least 5 cm there. You should have taken the measurement beforehand.

Was that on April 1st? If he has no reasonable argument, I find the statement quite rude. Of course, you can expect it to be done better.

What does it look like from the outside?

I suppose that on the outside the guide rails of the roller shutters represented a "natural" boundary and that is why he did not want to move the installation level. The old windows were probably really shallower as well. But he should have considered (measured) that beforehand and if necessary estimated more effort. In any case, this is not acceptable.

The windows do not protrude, they do not lie flush against the wall. The photo says far too little. One would also have to look at the exterior view as well as question what was ordered and how thick the walls are. Also: is there a photo with the old window? What does the wall section look like from above? Exactly where is the window installed in which wall thickness?
