Hello everyone, a new topic has come up again. Yesterday the window installer was on site for the measurement. The topic came up whether double or triple glazing. The window installer tends more towards double glazing, he said more light comes through and the rooms are brighter than with triple glazing. Honestly, I hadn’t really thought about that before. By the way, it is a prefabricated house from the late 70s with a clinker facade. According to feedback from the energy consultant, triple glazing would not be a problem if you ventilate properly. If I have read correctly on the internet, we would also receive a subsidy from the KFW for the triple-glazed windows. Now the question for me is whether to go with double or triple glazing. What are your opinions here? Thanks

The statement about the light is technically correct. However, window size and positioning are likely more decisive. You can safely forget that argument.

You have to directly compare the offered glasses according to the LT value. It cannot be said in general that triple glazing automatically means less light.

Here is a small example:

Ah ok, that is good to know. Thanks for the info. I will inquire about it.

That has nothing to do with the glazing, but with the tight installation of the new windows. I would personally choose only triple glazing. Not because it is necessarily better, but because it increases the value of the house more than double glazing. Even if both options have the same price.

I was in the window industry. Where two or three panes are the same price, this generally also applies in terms of quality. The number of panes is rather something for "gross-motor spirits" - and in this respect also an image factor when reselling. However, without changing the wall structure, I would make sure not to take the U-value question beyond the requirements of the energy saving ordinance to the extreme.
