Hello,

we are considering planning a ceiling opening in the dining area on the ground floor.

Who has one and would like to send pictures?

Advantages/disadvantages?

What should be taken into account?

We are aware that we will lose some space on the upper floor...

What should be above the hole: an open roof underside or a gallery all around?

Windows?
You mean airspace.
Is very sensitive to sound -> children's room
Photos are available on Pinterest, information via the search here

Here a photo taken through the "airspace" onto the dining table. Meanwhile, there is also a railing on the gallery and on the terrace.

Such airspaces and galleries are visually as different as the houses themselves. A picture like this will hardly help.

Advantage: air volume and spacious feeling --> that was definitely what we wanted to achieve.
Potential disadvantage: echoey room acoustics --> solved here with an acoustic ceiling from LignoTrend.
Disadvantage: it gets louder upstairs when there is activity downstairs. --> not relevant to us.

The space upstairs only becomes tight if you put such a solution into too small a house. You can influence that when building a new house.
