Hello,

we are currently facing the problem that our concrete staircase from the ground floor to the upper floor is getting oak steps, which will not match the staircase to the attic. For the staircase (space-saving staircase) to the attic, we have chosen a "cheap" product from the hardware store. Unfortunately, this staircase is not available in oak, only in beech and in several stain tones. We do not like the oak stain tone at all, it is far too reddish. Now we have considered at least having the stringers painted white so that the difference is not too noticeable. However, painting is not possible, only staining. The color sample also looks quite good. But how does the reality look? Does anyone have experience with white-stained staircases and can report? If we had known all this beforehand, we would have chosen a more expensive staircase, but now the die is cast and we have to somehow fish it out. Or should we have the staircase delivered raw and ask a carpenter if he can help us with the finishing?

Is having the space-saving staircase taken back and having a suitable one made by the staircase builder not an option?

I don't think so. We are also pressed for time. Unfortunately, the whole thing with the staircase has been delayed too much. We wanted to have it by the end of January. And now getting quotes again and so on, there isn't enough time, especially since it has already been produced and now it's only about the final color tone. Man, you want something inexpensive for once and then this crap. I am so annoyed. The consultant who did the measurement was unfortunately not very competent. He said oak would be possible, then again stained oak would be possible. If only I had listened to my gut feeling....

If I were you, I would play it safe and have the staircase delivered unfinished. That way you save time and, as you already said, you can still ask a carpenter for help later on. I think sometimes you just have to make a few compromises to reach your goal. Edited afterwards is "always quick"... The important thing is that the staircase is finally there, right?!

Since an exchange is excluded, I would also opt for that option in this case.
