Hello,

I am looking for a pump for a basement shaft. This pump should switch on automatically in case of a pipe failure or flooding, reliably vent, and pump via these glued PVC pressure pipes with about 50mm inner diameter over a height of 2m.

I have already read some reviews and recently ended up, via Einhell and Kärcher, with the AL-KO Twin 14000 Premium, which had the best reviews. Unfortunately, according to the operating manual and after consulting the manufacturer, it is not suitable for continuous operation nor for pumping drinking water.

I suspect that this is probably stated in the operating manual of almost every pump because manufacturers want to protect themselves from any claims and demands.

The next step would be to go to a real specialist dealer for water or wastewater construction, but the pumps there will probably soon cost four digits...

Can you give me some tips on this? My shaft is 60x60x45cm (LxWxH).

Thank you very much!

In case I understood you correctly that you have a shaft into which water occasionally flows and then needs to be drained, I have an Einhell 4170666 GE-SP 750 LL for a similar problem. It does that reliably, but I wouldn't attach 50mm pipes to it. Or what do you think, how much water comes there?

Well, I hope that the pump never has anything to do. But in the worst case, e.g. in the event of a pipe break or a flood, the pump must also be able to run for a few hours without quitting its service. Regarding the pipe diameter, I wouldn’t have worried too much, because you can’t (at least with the usual household pumps) connect larger hoses, and as I said, my line is only about 2m long. The continuous operation clause is also found in the operating manual of the GE-SP 750 LL. Although here it is rather advised against continuous operation in the sense of a circulation pump...

Take a look at the güde 94627 gfs 401 s.

It can't handle dirt, but it can handle flat and has no float.

Hello greasechain

First of all, welcome

Regarding your question.

Why should the pump be suitable for drinking water? I don’t understand. The water that is pumped out is dirty anyway and ends up in the sewer.

Our wastewater pump in the sump, where the washing machine water runs, comes from the hardware store and cost about €30 around 15 years ago. It has to pump the water 2.8 m high.
By the way, the predecessor pump lasted about 20 years.

A few years ago, a cistern was built where no outlet was installed. To prevent it from overflowing, about 1.5 m³ of water is also pumped out with a wastewater pump costing about €40, also from the hardware store, to make room for new water.

On the other hand, I still have one with which I have already emptied a pond (10 m³) for cleaning or have often pumped the water around to increase the oxygen in the water if the air pump is not sufficient. And this pump can run for hours without any problems.

So I can say that only inexpensive pumps are used here and I have not had any problems with them so far.

And why a pressure pipe? I exclusively use 1” or 1 1/4” hoses. If you have to lift the pump sometimes, it is much easier to do with a hose than with a rigid connection through a pipe.

The pressure pipe is existing.

Hm, I thought this was about the pump not being able to pump drinking water, not that it wouldn’t be usable as drinking water after the pump.
Kind of strange actually :-D

I have a lot of experience with 30 euro submersible pumps, but here I often had to shake the pump if there was an air bubble underneath during the first suction; this risk is too high for me.
