Which living room furniture should I choose?

Hi,

I am considering what living room furniture to buy - so far I am satisfied with the Ikea quality.
I have a living room with an open kitchen (VOXTORP in white), oak plank parquet, brown fabric sofa, and one brown accent wall in the room, the others cream. Overall everything is modern.

I tend to choose the color white, it should not look like a children's room, nor old-fashioned, and should not be fully furnished with furniture ... two shelves where the TV can go (what height is reasonable?) and maybe a display cabinet.
The furniture should match each other.

Is Besta really that bad in quality?

The new BESTA carcasses are unfortunately quite flimsy. And that despite the fact that the back panel is provided with a groove, which contributes to the lateral stability. But even the 128cm carcass tilts to the side when it is freestanding as soon as a door is opened. At the bottom, this might be about 0.5 - 1mm, but at the top of the length, the carcass easily leans away by 5-6mm. For this exact reason, I did not get a 192cm carcass but only the 128cm version.

I have one 128cm carcass with 2 doors in front, next to it adjacent 2 x TV cabinets at 38cm height with a width of 120cm each. I screwed the 128cm carcass to the adjacent TV cabinet using 4 carcass connectors. Thus, the lateral tilt no longer occurs, as the TV cabinets are already quite stable.

I cannot screw the carcasses to the wall because they stand about 40mm away from the wall (ventilation and because of the cable channel skirting board), and I also have a cable channel from the TV mounted on the wall running behind the TV cabinets.

I also had the problem with the receiver once because of a too shallow sideboard from Ikea, but then I looked elsewhere and luckily the complaint with Ikea was no problem. I then researched an alternative. Here on ****] you can find furniture from many different shops, you do have to click around a lot because you are always redirected to the respective shop if you want to take a closer look at something, but this way you definitely get an overview. It’s also good to maybe compare prices from different shops. I find 90% of my stuff at Ikea, but sometimes I wasn’t quite satisfied with the price/performance ratio. Where else do you actually shop besides Ikea? I only shop on the internet and at flea markets otherwise.

Best regards
