Which frost protection should be used under a pavement surface?

Hello everyone,

attached you will find two pictures of the frost protection which is already laid out on our future paving area. Is this frost protection size-wise okay or should I apply a "balancing layer" with a smaller grain size before bedding?

I am afraid that with the larger grain size I will not get a clean/flat surface after compaction and that the bedding of 3-5 cm will be too thin, so that the frost protection might protrude.

Regards
Jörg

Non-scaled photos help a lot ;)

Next time, throw in a folding ruler....

But if that is properly shaken off, I don't see a problem with the grain size.
The sieve line is more problematic for me, meaning a lot of coarse grain. Is that qualified material?
How long has it been sitting there if grass is growing out of it?

The frost protection has now been in place for about 2 years. The grain size ranges from about 1 cm to 8 cm. I therefore thought to compact this frost protection properly and then put another layer of 0/32 frost protection on top and compact again. What do you think about that?

How high do you need to go? About 10-15 cm new FSS and bedding and paving on top, and you'll have peace for many years.

What do you mean by how high I need to come? My civil engineer back then filled up to the top edge of the street with frost protection. That means I have to excavate more anyway. Therefore, I thought I would go in another 10 - 15 cm and fill this again with 0/32 FS, if necessary. Unless it would also be fine with this FS.

Pavement and bedding are 12 cm thick. So you would have to remove the 10-15 cm anyway, but you would have no space left for new FSS. Then you would have to have it removed even deeper. Do you also have at the house OK FSS (now) = top edge of the pavement (new)?
