Hello,

we cannot decide between 2.625m or 2.755m raw construction height for the basement of our new building. For the floor structure in a Kfw70 house, 19cm would be required. The room height would therefore be approximately 2.44m or 2.57m without flooring (tiles / vinyl). I find 2.44 somehow a bit too low since we will have an open kitchen (living/dining area 33sqm and kitchen 10sqm). In our apartment, we have a room height of 2.5m. With the higher variant, the stairs to the upper floor would need to have 15 narrower steps instead of 14. The increase would cost us about 1400 euros.

The problem seems to be common today due to the higher floor structure (insulation). We are torn back and forth.

Which height do most home builders choose today?

Clear answer: Most choose the higher ceiling height. However, I have decided on a low ceiling height because otherwise the rooms on the upper floor would be correspondingly lower (or the slope would start earlier), since the eaves height was fixed. Our living room is 43m² with an adjoining kitchen with a large opening. I don't feel any sense of "ceiling falling on my head." You have to decide for yourself.

We also have about 2.44 m and that is a "normal ceiling feeling". More space also means more heating, and most cabinets do not reach all the way up to the ceiling anyway.

We took 2.75m raw construction height, room doors then at 2.11m. I would always do it that way again, but it could also be because I am just under 2m tall and didn’t always want to watch out where a ceiling lamp hangs when stretching.
