Hello,

we want to get a new bed again.

What would you recommend to us?

Box spring bed

Solid wood bed

With the solid wood bed, we can choose the mattress ourselves, with the box spring bed everything is coordinated.

What are your experiences and opinions about the types of beds?

We ordered a box spring bed just 2 days ago. I don't know if I'm allowed to name the brand - they are Dutch, but sound like Swiss. I have had a good bed with slatted frames and mattresses all my life. My husband, typically Australian, is used to a box spring bed. My mother has had a box spring bed for a while now, and during visits (when we didn't live here yet) we had the opportunity to sleep on it for a few nights. We slept incredibly well on it, so we have now ordered the bed as well.

We decided on an upholstered bed at the height of a box spring bed. Choosing and replacing the mattress was important to us.

I like box spring beds for the simple reason that you bump into them less painfully. Otherwise, everything actually speaks in favor of a nice solid wood frame and an extra mattress. But this constant pain became enough for me at some point, and I got myself a box spring bed.

Aha! Whoever thinks of something nice while doing so, wins. Beds are individual: one body prefers to sleep on water, another hard. I couldn't give a recommendation, everyone has to try that out for themselves.

Box spring bed or solid wood is just the appearance. The mattress is the only important and relevant thing. And for that, I would always - and have for almost 30 years - choose a waterbed. Currently in a "box spring bed". But it has also been in a solid wood bed. It has almost exclusively advantages:
- body-warm (adjustable for both partners)
- much more hygienic and even better for allergy sufferers
- ALWAYS the right and ergonomic lying position. If you gain or lose three kilos, the mattress is simply perfectly adjusted (liters of water in or out)
- mattress often lasts 15-20 years
- cheaper than conventional beds (over the years)
- and no, you don’t get seasick or it doesn’t rock constantly. You can freely choose - although long-term waterbed users prefer "rocking" and thus lying naturally
