Hello everyone,

we are now in the process of planning our baseboards. There are so many from different suppliers that it's getting hard to keep track. We didn't find anything decent at the hardware store either.

We have a solid house and vinyl flooring glued down throughout the entire house. White wallpaper that ends 2 cm above the floor. So we were considering installing relatively low baseboards. A height of 40 mm would be nice. The selection here is not really big.
The next consideration is: how should the inside and outside corners look. I will not miter cut them. To be honest, that's too much effort for me. So there are two options left:

1. Plastic corners (this is our emergency solution)
2. Corner blocks (or whatever they are called)

With the second option, it is again difficult to get these corner blocks exactly in the thickness of the baseboard. And they shouldn’t protrude either :/
So we will probably go with option 1. Unless someone has a better idea or a supplier where everything fits.

Regarding the attachment, I don’t really care whether it is fixed with clips or screwed directly into the wall. Whether it is MDF or solid wood doesn’t matter either. Cable management would be good but is not absolutely necessary.

Maybe you can post some pictures of how you solved this...

Best regards
Sebastian

We installed laminated MDF in 2 rooms. They are about 50mm high and exactly rectangular. Therefore, there is no need to miter the corners. We find them very attractive and I have never laid baseboards so quickly. They are, as is common nowadays, mounted on these plastic clips. Cable installation is also possible. I believe we bought them at OBI, but I would have to look for the receipt. However, it is difficult to find ones that match the floor design. Nowadays, when I look at new floors, I also check how the matching baseboards look, because I have messed up once or twice before.

I have also installed foiled MDF things with clips. In my opinion, that's not a really good solution. It doesn't sit 100% firmly and doesn't fit perfectly everywhere either. That means sometimes there is a small gap between the trim and the floor, you can't drill that precisely. If you’re not dependent on cable management and might need to remove the trim again, I would glue the trim next time. Screwing the trim directly to the wall doesn't look good and is, in my opinion, not possible with these MDF things—they can't hold that. With solid wood trim, it works, but even then the screws are not exactly a visual highlight. The corners should be mitered; these plastic corners are a disaster. With the right saw, that’s actually no problem.

Parador ASL3, cut at an angle, mounted with clips. Fast, easy, clean. I have no gap between the molding and the floor; the elongated hole of the clip accommodates quite a bit of height offset when drilling, as long as the clip is not screwed down too tightly. Telephone, power, and speaker cables can be laid easily along with it; for that, the baseboard can be modified on the underside at a not visible spot with a Dremel for cable inlet and outlet, then it still fits tightly everywhere. Our carpenter gave us the good advice from his point of view to attach the moldings with brass screws/nails. I am very glad I did not do it that way.

Thank you for the tips and advice. The Parador ASL3 look quite good. I think we'll take a look at them in person...

There are end caps, inner and outer corners as well as transition profiles available in white and aluminum, but at extortionate prices of about €4 per pair. For that, you could already rent a good miter saw and bevel saw.
