Hello everyone, last Friday at our meeting with the [GU] the topic "water pipes" came up by chance. He said that he has been installing plastic pipes for years because they are inexpensive and also quite safe. Stainless steel pipes are not an option for us due to a nickel allergy. Now I wanted to ask: do you actually know what kind of pipes are installed in your house? I especially mean which type of plastic? Can you rely on the fact that only plastic pipes that are safe for health are installed in Germany? It will probably be PVC-C or PE-X, right? Or are they PB pipes after all? I mean, after all, the water supply pipe on our property is also made of plastic (looks like a blue PE pipe and is probably PE-HD?). Best regards from Swabia Anna

Pure plastic pipes? That is actually DIY store material for do-it-yourselfers. Professionally, they would be aluminum composite pipes. These are available from all major sanitary companies (e.g. Viega, Uponor, or Geberit are very commonly used). These are usually PE-XC/Al/PE-XC pipes. Or also PE-RT. And yes, no matter which pipes are used, even the DIY store pipes, all are harmless. Definitely not lead pipes!!! Alternatively, of course, copper is also possible. However, composite pipes are much easier to process. They are also not used for single-family houses. There is no reason for that.
