On the first day of our house construction, the roof structure was not completed. Overnight, a lot of rain got into the water. Water is dripping from the ceilings everywhere. Unfortunately, it rained again on the second day and it took some time until the roof structure was finished. We are building a prefab house and I am very concerned that the large amount of water will damage the wood. Is it advisable to hire an expert?

Basically, in my opinion, it is advisable to have an independent expert involved throughout the entire construction process. We were very glad to have our expert. During the erection of our house, it drizzled almost continuously, but since we had enough time to dry before the interior work started and it was really only the framework (no insulation, etc. yet), our expert was able to give the green light after several inspections and moisture measurements. Without an expert, however, I would have had concerns!

The executing company bears full responsibility for delivering a defect-free construction performance. This also includes, if necessary, setting up and maintaining a rain- and storm-proof covering at least until the roof truss is covered with a rainproof underlayment or an underdeck panel ( + underlay, depending on roof pitch). A prefabricated house made of wood construction that is completely soaked by rain can lead to massive mold growth in the insulated components and to construction damage during further interior work due to moisture that does not dry out completely or dries out only very slowly. In your position, I would first order a work stoppage and have an inspection carried out. Closed + already insulated constructions must be checked.
