Good evening, for a long time the construction of a wooden house with an exposed beam ceiling/solid wood ceiling on the ground floor was our "dream". The current cost situation and uncertainty (where/when can you get wood and so on?) have raised the question whether an exposed timber beam ceiling is also possible in the Kalkstein solid house on the ground floor. a) Are these services that a carpenter can and will provide? b) What planning needs to be done in advance with the general contractor/house building company? Increase the ceiling height on the ground floor by 20-25 cm? Set drillings? c) Has anyone done something like this before, and if so, what costs can be expected? Have a nice evening and thank you very much Schallinger

Of course that is possible, the structural engineer will plan it that way. However, if a pure wooden house is the "dream," I would take a closer look (have it calculated) whether you really want to give this up, because many areas are affected by the current price increases. At least currently, the price of wood is declining.

I would now have several wooden houses offered to me, and then again in 3 or 6 months. Projects are being put on hold now because they are too expensive. That will give you a feeling of when the right time is for you.

There is no reason to give up on a dream. When it comes to the house, try not to go up to the maximum financing limit and include a buffer, then it will be fine. If you want a wooden house, you should not build a stone house - and of course, vice versa.

Thank you very much for your answers. We now have an offer from a regional timber house builder, which is definitely too high for us. So wait and see or build solid.

Since laypeople usually have completely naive ideas about the connections between visual and actual construction (and I also suspect that the realization of this special wish is more relevant in the comfort area than all the way into the guest WC and pantry), I suggest: show some pictures of how it should look, and then we can talk about how to build it. Where wishes and money don’t seem to come together, it doesn’t necessarily have to be due to facts in all cases. Due to insulation reasons, we’re talking about no more than eight or ten centimeters of visible beam height with a real wooden beam ceiling today—and a layperson won’t recognize that as such if it’s only "decoration"—so why not just do it that way!
