We are currently right in the middle of all the construction planning and are thinking about a floor or surface heating system. I have now read that it is not unimportant where the furniture is placed with a wall heating system. Is that outdated information, or would I then not be able to put shelves on the wall or place a sofa against the wall? That would make the so advertised advantages pointless.

Hello Mori, :)

we are also planning to heat our house with wall heating. We recently inquired with a representative of the company WEM here in our region. He told us that of course you shouldn’t place large, closed wardrobes in front of it. But individual shelves, smaller dressers, or even smaller bookcases without a back can be placed in front without any problems. Sofas are also not a problem (best not to place them directly against the wall but leave a few centimeters of space).
I can of course only repeat what the representative told us. Maybe someone already has practical experience with wall heating? I would be very interested!
@Mori, are you also planning to use clay plaster?

Hello,
A wall heating system on the inside of exterior walls is energetically less favorable compared to underfloor heating. In addition, the meander layout also has some drawbacks. WH should rather be seen as a supplement to underfloor heating if the existing floor surface is not sufficient to cover the room heating loads.
In underfloor heating, the limitation of the heat output due to permanently inactive heating areas, e.g., kitchen units, is taken into account in the calculation.
An exact dimensioning of the heating surfaces is essential for an energy-efficient overall solution, especially if the heat generator is to be a heat pump or a condensing boiler.

Best regards.

I have also already examined a wall heating system in which only the bare multilayer composite pipe was installed in the installation layer, and it was put into operation without reinforcement and plaster. However, wall heating systems must be installed like underfloor heating for efficient and energy-saving operation, for example in [Speis- oder Lehmverputzung] or used panel or stone elements with plaster.
