Hello everyone,
we will face the choice around October on the 1st floor whether to install the underfloor heating in the classic way, i.e., in about 7cm screed, or the Schlüter Bekotec Therm system. Our tiler would install the Bekotec system. With a credit from the general contractor (and a planned surcharge for quick screed), this would be almost cost-neutral. Under the Bekotec system, correspondingly higher insulation will be installed, so that in our new building the advantage of the low system height does not apply and both variants will have the same height. Thus, the soundproofing should also be almost (what does that mean?) the same.

What appeals most to us about the Bekotec system is that the floor construction can begin after just 3 days. I would now need independent experiences and opinions on this. The craftsmen who do it, of course, always think their system is best.

Regards

It’s not exactly Nobel Prize-worthy. The only supposed advantage is the installation height, which at the same time is also a disadvantage. It depends on what you actually need. The studded mats are really a thing of the past.

If you want a faster reaction time and to constantly fiddle with the heating, then the system is the right one.

If, on the other hand, you want to set everything once and never touch it again, I would recommend the classic system.

The screed is the storage in both systems, and the less of it there is, the faster the system reacts to changes. In both positive and negative ways.

The installation height is actually irrelevant to me. That would probably be more of a factor in renovating older buildings with retrofitting of the [FHB]. Thank you for the additional information!

YES, in old buildings or existing structures, the system already has a certain justification for its existence. Otherwise, they are old messages repackaged.
