Hope that an image appears here ... :
(forgive me if the forum software doesn’t obey 100% ... )
Below is a picture, and where the red arrows are drawn, the mystery begins for me ... :
1.) At the places where something square and grey can be seen ... behind it hides a channel ... that goes at least about 75 cm into the wall, horizontally ... ; the whole object has such shafts everywhere up to several meters height ; I ignited a small incense fire inside at random ... and wanted to see if the smoke comes out somewhere ... but the draft was not good and smoke did not come out anywhere ... except from a few cracks of the natural stones ... ; it was only a small incense fire each time, from a few tissue paper handkerchiefs ...
2.) At the two other places, where there is no grey on it ... you can see a horizontal guidance of channels, close under the masonry surface ... ; elsewhere (no photo) one can see at a few broken-off stones that these channels even go around corners ... ..
==============
What is this weird thing?
==> Are the walls hollow inside, for insulation purposes? (statement of my predecessor, who however did not investigate the substance 100%)
==> Or is only a layer of hollow bricks built on the surface?
The outer walls are, at most places, almost 1 m thick, if you measure at the windows ... ... :rolleyes:
==> could it possibly even have been a kind of air duct heating?
==============
Hopefully you find it as exciting as I do, with greetings .. .
