Traveling during the construction phase?

According to our site manager, the earthworks could start at our place in 3 weeks.

We haven’t booked a vacation, but we would like to travel for 3 weeks at the end of July.

Were you on vacation during the construction phase or when or at which stage should one not be away?

Or can we simply go away without worry?

I asked the site manager and he just said, "go ahead" :)

How did you solve that?

"When does it start?" "No idea." Next day: "The excavator is there, it's starting."

It was similar for us... Although I also find civil engineering exciting, I think you don't have that much influence or impact there. More in the direction of whether and how soil is possibly stored, distributed, or given away, etc. Possibly also with cisterns or pipes. But these things should be in the plan of the site manager anyway.

For that reason and considering that it can quickly be postponed due to the weather, in my opinion a vacation is definitely possible. The transition from the shell construction to interior work and electrical installations, etc.—there I would rather make sure to be ready.

no vacation. I don’t have one and would never take one. Ok, we didn’t check the staking of the foundation slab, something could have gone wrong there. But from the masonry work onwards, we were regularly on site and could get the occasional mistake corrected right away.

My humble layman's opinion: That really depends on the construction method. If you build [schlüsselfertig] or via [BT], I could imagine a relaxed vacation. Otherwise, not really. Too often, inquiries remain unanswered. We were and still are at the construction site almost every day.

I don’t understand either – your mind isn’t free at all when working on a major project.
You want to spend every free second at the construction site, measuring again, bringing cakes to the craftsmen, etc. You are the contact person for the interior work… and anyway: you want to take photos… :rolleyes:

Not at all. You have to ventilate yourself, cover the foundation slab when the wind blows the plans away, etc.
We spent a lot of time at the house, had picnics, visited other builders on site. Drank some beers, etc.

Vacation during construction is a really stupid idea. You can forget it, you can't switch off at all. Even with a site manager, it's not a good idea.
