Townhouse or detached house? Experiences?

Hi guys,

I have a big decision to make; I want to buy a house. Now I have seen nice houses and have to choose between a townhouse and a detached house. Both offer the same space and comfort.

What would you prefer?

have you gotten the energy certificates for the two houses?

How is heating done there (oil? gas? renewable energy? solar?), how is the hot water prepared (solar? expensive instantaneous water heater, powered by electricity?), how much do you have to spend on that per year?

What about (area, square meter size) garden and its orientation (sun exposure, etc.)?
What about the respective neighbors? Take a look at them, because you will have to live with them!
Age of the houses?
Layout of the rooms?
Where does more renovation need to be done?
and so on and so forth.

Personally, I would prefer a single-family house, but I also like to be alone when I need peace :)

Money is likely to play a role as well; if the equipment, size, and location are comparable, the detached house is more expensive, firstly because of the construction costs and secondly because of the larger plot. Those who love a larger garden choose the detached house, while for those who find gardening a horror, a terraced house is likely to be better suited.
