Hello! The tiled stove at my parents' place always had a kind of roof attached on top (no idea what exactly it's called). Now the entire stove needs to be renovated, so the roof was taken down. My mother thinks it looks better without it, but the guy who fixed the stove convinced my father that it's worse without the roof... what do you think? Does it work worse then or is it a matter of taste?

Hello Liane! So I already know which "roof" you mean, but I don't know the correct name for it either ;) What I do know is that it's a matter of taste.. many say it belongs like that, my girlfriend says she doesn't care how it belongs if she doesn't like it :D I share the same opinion. I don't believe it has anything to do with the function.

My tiled stove doesn’t have such a roof, so I hardly believe it would work better with one... everything works quite well without it. But I have also been told that something is missing on my stove, that it should have a roof... I like it better this way.

Are you sure that doesn't affect the function? I have the impression it has something to do with the smoke extraction, could that be? I think I heard that somewhere... maybe you'd better ask a professional or is anyone here completely sure?

In case of doubt, you should ask the [Kaminkehrer], because they are the expert on the safety of such stoves. Even if the missing part apparently does not affect the function, it may still be that for safety reasons it should definitely remain in place.

Oh, that is a great idea!! Thanks Egbert! :) I will forward that to my parents. They really should ask before making a final decision.
