Hello, unfortunately one of my windows has broken, meaning it can no longer be opened. In my haste, I turned the handle too early when I wanted to close the window from the tilt position. At first, it was still possible to open it, but it was already damaged because one of the side locking pins was too low and the window handle could only be turned up to the horizontal position. Then the mechanism made a scratching noise and since then the window handle can only be turned a little way. Conclusion: The window is closed and can no longer be opened. I would not have thought such a thing could happen with an overbuilt northern window, this should not happen.

Now I am wondering if and how the window can even be repaired and I am very open to any good tips.

Attached are two photos that were taken when the window could at least still be opened: The metal flat piece was probably already bent before, I just never noticed it. Otherwise, the most noticeable thing is the metal strip bulging upward. And the locking pin is too low; in this case, it should be in the middle, I know this because I compared it with other windows at home.

How can this be repaired or does a new window need to be installed? If yes, how do you then get it out of the frame? At least one of the locking pins is now probably behind one of the guides.

The window is from the company K..l

Thanks for the information!

Windows are very rarely from one company. It is typical that the end "consumer" knows the name of the profile manufacturer but does not know with which fittings and which mechanics the window maker has assembled the overall product. From your description, you have made an operating error that can be sufficient to "adjust the ignition" of this "gear mechanism" in a manner of speaking - but you have not applied forces so brutal that Poland would be lost forever. You will have to call in a specialist for window installation - probably best from the supplying company. You will have to endure pitiful noises from the mechanism during the operation without anesthesia. Presumably, you will have to part with two green bills and have the patience for two weeks of delivery time. I expect a difficult birth, which, however, mother and child will get through well. Said as a former window manufacturer and later dealer (but not an installer myself).

Thank you very much for the info. Above all, I am happy that a professional responded to me. I had forgotten to mention that the window at the top can still be opened a crack, in this way there might possibly be a chance (?), to work via the mechanism that is still accessible there. Would that be conceivable? Thank you.

Let's rather say "semi-professional," because I never trained as a window installer myself.

The professional – as said, preferably from the company that originally installed it – will have to look at an identical window and examine the affected window to see how things work. Patience and skill will be his most essential tools, followed by the replacement of bent parts.
